Astaxanthin (as' × tä× zan'× thin)
Astaxanthin helps maintain antioxidant balance. Astaxanthin in is a high quality pure pigment extract from an aquatic
plant. High levels of antioxidants, like beta carotene and astaxanthin influence the immune system, and reduce the incidence of certain cancers (Bendich 1989, Ziegler 1989). Reports indicate
that pigments without vitamin A activity, like Astaxanthin, may be more effective immune modulators than beta carotene (Schwartz & Shklar 1987, Shklar & Schwartz 1988).
